US Embassy in Brazil announcementUS Embassy in Brazil announced that the Brazilians are not allowed to participate in the DV Lottery 2009.According to them, there is an increase in legal immigration to the US, so Brazil is not participating. The United State's Department of States every year conducts the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, also known as Green Card Lottery, that provides 50,000 permanent immigrant visas to persons from countries with the low rates of immigration to the United States. Winners are selected randomly by computers, and there is no fee to enter the Lottery. Department of State everty year examines how many people have emigrated from their country to the United States. If the number of immigrants of any given nationality has exceeded 50,000 in the last five years, this country will be added to the list of countries ineligible to participate in the Lottery. This year, because of a large number of Brazilians becoming Lawful Permanent Residents of the United States, Brazil is not eligible to participate in the Lottery. In other words, Brazilian citizens will not be able to submit an entry to the Lottery in 2009.
