DV Lottery - Notice from US Embassy in Doha.

The US Embassy in Doha has announced that people who are intrested in participating in the DV Lottery 2009 must be careful about the web sites which are calling themself as the official US web site and ask money to assist in the online application. Where entering the Lottery is free in the US Govt official web site.

There are many complaints made at the Doha Embassy as some people have paid from $100 to $5,000. Only online application is accepted and paper entries will not be accepted. For those who want to apply can access the electronic entry form atwww.dvlottery.state.gov during the registration period which was opened on October 3 and will close on December 2, 2007.

Vice Consul K Quinn Andrus at the US Embassy in Doha who recently came further said that “Anyone asking you to pay up or remit money to take part in the Lottery is a fraud," and said to “Inform the embassy immediately through e-mail or phone,”. Further more was told that “A lawyer can assist someone in filling up a form. That's all. But people here are paying thousands of dollars to unscrupulous operators who are promising Green Cards,”.

During the Press meet officials claimed that many people were contacted telephonically as well as through e-mails by unscrupulous elements to participate in the Lottery for a fee.

DV Lottery 2009 is a simple process to apply, even the computer will say wether the the required photograph is correct size or not. There is absolutely no charge to download and complete the electronic DV entry form.

When answering to a question, Andrus said citizens of Sudan, Syria and Iran, which the USA considers as countries that sponsor terrorism, are eligible to apply for the Lottery.

It was told at the press meet that a Qatari had won the Lottery last year but he did not approach the embassy for a visa.

The dvlottery allow a person to submit only one application and if applied more than one, all the entries will be disqualified.
Only eligible people can enter the lottery but winners will have to face strict conditions to be met during the interview process.

Official also said that "There are people calling us up to find out details of the DV programme and whether or not there is a fee. We are also getting e-mails. It's a good thing since it shows increasing awareness,".

The result for the DV Lottery 2009 will be announced between May and July of 2008.
