DIVERSITY VISA LOTTERY FOR ETHIOPIA.

Ethiopia born people are eligible to take part in the American Government's official diversity visa lottery program regardless of where they are living today. To play this U.S visa lottery they must meet the education and or required work experience as instructed in the DV Lottery instructions. You should read the DV lottery Instructions carefully before applying for the dv lottery through the E-DV application form. The DV Lottery application form will be available in the internet for a period of 60 days.

Diversity Visa applications for the DV program will be accepted online in the announced date period. Applicants may access the electronic Diversity Visa entry form (E-DV) during the registration period. Paper entries will not be accepted. Applicants are strongly encouraged not to wait until the last week of the registration period to enter. Heavy demand may result in website delays. No entries will be accepted after the closing time on the day.

The annual DV program makes visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. Every DV lottery entrant must have at least a secondary school education or its equivalent or have, within the past five years, two years of work experience in an occupation requiring at least two years' training or experience. Applicants who do not meet the educational or work experience requirement will be disqualified.

A computer-generated, random lottery drawing chooses selectees for Diversity Visas. The visas are distributed among six geographic regions, with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower historical rates of immigration to the United States, and with no visas going to nationals of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. over the past five years. Within each region, no single country may receive more than seven percent of the total available Diversity Visas in any one year. No countries have been added or removed from the list of eligible countries this year.

In U.S. Fiscal Year 2009, the Department of State received more than nine million applications for the DV lottery program. Of that number some 100,000 entrants were selected worldwide, including 5,200 Ethiopian citizens, to further pursue a Diversity Visa. As in years past, the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia issued more than 3,000 visas to lottery winners from this group.

The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered on an annual basis by the Department of State and conducted under the terms of Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Beginning in 2005, the Department of State implemented an electronic registration system in order to make the DV process more efficient and secure. Special technology and other means are used to identify those who commit fraud for the purposes of illegal immigration or those who submit multiple entries. The year 2009 marked the first time that applicants could check the status of entries online and determine whether their entries were selected or not selected for the DV 2010 visa lottery program. Successful entrants for the 2011 DV program may also check the status of their entry online, and will continue to receive notification letters by mail.
